Considered to one of the greatest furniture designs of the twentieth century, the Aluminium Group was conceived as in the mid-1950’s as part of the furnishings of a private house in Indiana.
Charles and Ray Eames approached the design from an engineering and ergonomic perspective. The seat was stretched taut between two aluminium side members, following the line of the sitters back, and without the need for elaborate upholstery. The principle was adopted throughout a range of chair frames providing different functions throughout the home and office.
The Aluminium Group has proved to be a highly versatile design and has been in continuous production since 1958.
The chairs offered are in black wool, with polished aluminium frames and fixed bases.
